Wellies at the ready this August Bank Holiday Weekend as Oxegen returns to Punchestown Racecourse after a break last year. Although the festival has been somewhat downsized, the quality has by no means been compromised. Headline acts include Calvin Harris and David Guetta.

AA-Approved-Logo-YELLOW1Car parks open at 2pm on Friday and delays are likely on the M7 both north and southbound and also on the N81 Blessington Rd as well as around Naas itself. There are many public transport options including Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann from Cork and Kelly Travel from Cork, Limerick and Tipperary.

Eight teams get one step closer to fulfilling their dream of lifting the Sam Maguire as the Football Championship reaches the quarter final stage. Action gets underway in Croke Park at 5pm on Saturday as Monaghan take on Tyrone followed by Dublin and Cork at 7pm. The excitement doesn’t end there as Kerry take on Cavan at 2pm followed by Mayo and Donegal at 4pm. Those travelling to Croker from Cork and Kerry should keep in mind they will encounter Oxegen traffic on the M7 and the M8 so allow extra time for your journey.

The Indiependence Music Festival takes place at Deer Farm in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork from Friday until Sunday. Gates open at 4pm on Friday and at 10am on Saturday and Sunday. Car parks at the venue will remain open until 2pm on Monday so there is no rush home.

Finally on Monday it’s time to quicken up that stroll as the Rock n Roll Dublin Half Marathon takes place in the city. Participants will depart from St. Stephen’s Green at 8:30am and will travel to Earlsfort Terrace via the Phoenix Park. Rolling road closures will be in place along the race route between 8am and 12:30pm, including road and gate closures in the park.
