Roscommon Deputy wants more progress on driving test backlogs

Urgent action must be taken as an estimated 120,000 people are waiting for their theory tests and more than 70,000 people are waiting on a full driving test, says Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice.

Young people are left feeling frustrated by the current driving test system and the continuous cancellation of their scheduled tests.

There are nearly 120,000 learner drivers waiting to sit the theory test, and in excess of 70,000 people waiting for a full driving test. Despite the Road Safety Authority putting in new measures last month to increase the amount of driving and theory tests completed per week, TD Fitzmaurice says the rate at which tests are being completed must be sped up.

The Independent TD continued on the matter, saying people waiting on these tests have been “left in limbo” for over a year in some cases, and this hold-up in tests is particularly affecting the youths who need a licence to get a Summer job.
